14 day countdown to Valentine's Day

I got the idea from a friend's blog to do a countdown to Valentine's Day.  Michael, Benson and I each had a Valentine's card box and each day, starting on February 1st until February 14th, I would put a valentine card or note along with a treat in our boxes.  Michael and Benson got into the spirit by making me a card or note everyday.   Benson picked out a Toy Story box, Michael had a red stiped bucket and I had a cute box from Michael's Craft Store.

Sadly the only day we took any pictures was on day #1.  Benson loved the countdown!  Everyday he would wake up, go straight to his box and find out what was in it.  He would then refuse to eat breakfast until he ate his treat from his box.

It was a lot of fun, although I think we ate way more candy this year than we normally do around Valentine's Day.

BENSON'S 2ND BIRTHDAY

How did two years go by???  Benson turned two on January 11th and loved his birthday!  I guess kids enjoy getting presents and being the center of attention... especially Benson.  We had a CARS themed birthday party because Benson is in love with CARS.  I think we watch the movie on average, ten times a day!  Doc and Ramone are his favorite cars and he has to sleep with all three of his Ramone cars everynight.

I found this adorable matching pirate hat and shirt at Gymboree that looked adorable on Benson.  Funny story about the hat.  It only cost me over $40.00.  I bought the had for less than ten bucks when we were in Alabama and made the mistake of letting Benson wear it on the plane ride home.  Yeah, I left it on the plane and no one turned it in.  Benson cried his eyes out the entire drive home (2 hours) because he didn't have his ball hat.  So, I had to rebuy the hat and have it shipped overnight to make sure we got it before Benson's birthday.  I guess it was worth the money because HE LOVES THE HAT.  He wears it all day, everyday and throws a fit when he can't wear it to church.  (I just realized Benson wasn't wearing his pirate ball hat during his party because I did his hair.  I will have to find pictures of Benson wearing the hat and post them later)

Nana and Papa sent Benson a super cool CARS sleeping bag set that Benson really loves.  My parents bought Benson a totally adorable cow wheely bug.  Besides loving the movie CARS Benson is obsessed with cows.  We named the cow G, for grandma  and Benson rides around our house running into things on a daily basis.  A plus of G is that even though it says it only holds 50 pounds, I rode it and I weigh way more than 50 pounds.

CHRISTMAS IN ALABAMA

We spent Christmas in Alabama this year and had a blast!  Other than our flight being delayed out of Boise to Chicago and then delayed from Chicago to Huntsville on the way there it was a great trip.  Note to self: never fly into Chicago during the Winter.

We had  a great time with Nana and Papa before Christmas and on Christmas day and then with Aunt Jen, Uncle Dayton, Ethan, Allie, Anna, Megan and Carter for a few days after Christmas.  Benson loved getting presents and eating candy... who doesn't!

Check out the gingerbread house made by Michael and I.  Doesn't it look exactly like the picture on the box??? Not even close!  Those things are actually really had to make... who knew!

PHASE?

Benson was in this phase for a while that he kept taking his clothes off.  At first I would put it back on, several times a day but then it wasn't worth it to keep putting his clothes ten times a day.  Most days Benson was running around looking like this  (not in public though... that's where I draw the line.)

HAVING FUN OUTSIDE

Benson absolutely loves going outside to play. He loves to chase Georgia, play balls, shoot his nerf gun and play with chalk.

Hashbrown Winters

Pick up your copy of The Adventures of Hashbrown Winters and Hashbrown Winters and the Mashimoto Madness By Frank L. Cole.

“Frank is a wizard; he’s a fantastic storyteller who can turn the ordinary into gold and make me thrilled to read about every second of it. This is a great book. Sure it’s got page numbers and chapters, and those things are cool, but most important it has one great story—read it.”
--Obert Skye, author of Leven Thumps

“An excellent book. You’ll be laughing a lot as you sit on the edge of your seat. Highly recommended.”
--James Dashner, author of The 13th Reality

“Hashbrown Winters and the Mashimoto Madness is one enjoyable adventure. So good, in fact, I almost overlooked what a master Frank is with using capital letters at the start of each sentence. You’re going to love this book.”
--Obert Skye, author of Leven Thumps

“Filled with crazy, hare-brained, witty humor that just sort of reaches from out of nowhere and smacks you right in the face when you’re least expecting it! It will have you smiling, wincing, laughing, and downright snorting out loud before you are finished.”
                                                            --Phillip J. Chipping, CEO, www.knowonder.com

Buy this book. If you don't a short and portly naked man will show up in your driveway.  He won't leave.  No one wants to see that, just ask Mckinzie.

Pompa's Farm Hand & Bull

I searched the internet and Twin Falls for a cute cow costume and couldn't find anything. My mom suggested that Benson be Pompa's Farm Hand. It was perfect for Benson! He is attached to my Dad at the hip and has followed him around his garden/farm for months. Benson turned out adorable and Bull went perfect with his costume.

My Cow named Bull

Benson LOVES, LOVES, LOVES Cows! He is pretty much obsessed with cows. My mom bought him a cow from Build A Bear and when it came in the mail Benson was in love with it. When we asked him what his name was Benson said, "Bull." So, we have a cow named Bull.

On a side note I wanted to make Benson a cow for Halloween given that he loves cows. Michael didn't like the idea so much because as he informed me cows are only female. He thought Benson should be a Bull instead. Call me naive about animals but I had no idea that cows were only female and that a bull was a male cow. I may be smart when it comes to other subjects but clearly I am stupid when it comes to animals!

Benson also has another cow that is now taped to his wall. I bought Benson a huge helium balloon cow from the party store a few weeks ago and when it was about to deflate I popped a tiny hole in it to let the remaining air out so we could save the balloon given that it cost almost ten bucks. Benson was mortified when I did this. He looked at me as though I had just killed someone or ripped his heart out. He was so distraught he couldn't move, talk, or cry. He just stood there with his mouth open looking like he was about to burst into tears. Luckily I quickly showed him we were going to keep the cow and hang it on his wall. Now he just stands in his room and says "My Cow, My Cow, My Cow, My Cow."

Pompa's Pumpkin Patch

My Dad loves to garden. He really loves to grow pumpkins in his garden and this year was no exception. He had a great pumpkin patch, including several pumpkins that weighed 100 pounds. Benson enjoyed helping my Dad all Spring and Summer care for "Pompa's Garden." While my Dad was in the hospital my brother Catlin took care of the pumpkins and picked them when they were ready. We took Benson over to pick out our pumpkins and he was so excited.

Benson: Yeah, my pumpkin!

Benson: Mom it's freezing out here are we almost done with pictures!

I'm Growing Older But Not Up!

I found the perfect shirt for Benson while we were in Hawaii. We bought it at Jimmie Buffet's store and it says "I'm Growing Older But Not Up." I think Benson is destined to be short given I'm only 5'1" (on a good day) and Michael is 5'8" His shirt went perfect with a necklace that hangs in Michael's car. It is also from Jimmie Buffet's store. I bought it for Michael on his birthday a few years back and Benson loves playing with it.
